Helm, 69, Smithville, died Aug. 28, 2001, at his home following an illness of cancer. Born Oct. 26, 1931, in Jackson County, Mr. Helm was a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area. On June 9, 1950, he married Dorothy E. Greer. She died in 1969. He later married Carol J. Wolverton on July 11, 1971, in Stanberry. She survives of the home. Mr. Helm was an engineer for Airco (Pure Carbonic) until 1971. He then began working for TWA, retiring in 1993. He was also preceded in death by two infant sons, Junior and Matthew M.; his parents, Herman and Mary; and two sisters, Mary E. Wright and Vera Grider. Other survivors a daugher, Dorothy D. Lafferty, Kansas City; five sons, Tom, New York City, NY.; Mike, San Diego, CA.; and Dan, Ryan L., and Scott T., all of Smithville; two brothers, Don, Kansas City; and John, Sugar Creek; and seven grandchildren. Services were held Saturday morning at the First Baptist Church, Smithville, and burial was that afternoon in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Emmanuel Bible Church, Smithville.
