(Al) Heyde, a retired Wabash Railway Co. locomotive engineer, died Sunday afternoon at the Wabash hospital at Moberly, where he had been a patient for the past three weeks. Heyde, a veteran of more than 50 years of railway employment, was widely known in railroad circles. With the exception of a short time, during which he was employed by the Union Pacific at Green River, Colo., practically all of the remainder of his railroad work was in and out of Stanberry. His first work for the Wabash was in the shops here, but soon he became a fireman for the company and later a locomotive engineer. He retired from that position about four years ago. He had been a member of Moila Shrine at St. Joseph since 1917. He was also a member of the Stanberry Methodist church and of the Brotherhood of Locomotive engineers. The son of Maximillan and Sophia Heyde, he was born June 9, 1875, in Marion, O., and was 77 years old at the time of his death. The family came to Stanberry in February, 1893, and this city had remained his home from that time. He was married to Miss Clara Sager on Mar. 15, 1900. She died Nov. 21, 1923. He was married to Miss Velma Allen June 9, 1924, and one son by this marriage survives. He is Robert A. Heyde of Stanberry. On Jan. 17, 1936, he was married to Miss Eleanor Slack and they are the parents of two children, Suzanne and David, of the home. In addition to the widow and the children, he is also survived by five brothers, Henry, of Byers, Colo.; Adolph, Denver, Colo.; Ed, of the state of Michigan; William, Stanberry, and Godfred, King City; two sisters, Miss Pauline Heyde and Mrs. Frank Thomas both of Stanberry, and two grandchildren. The body was brought to the Phillips mortuary here, where funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon, conducted by the Rev. Chas. R. Hagee. Burial was in High Ridge cemetery.
