All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight; Gentry County Missouri; Thursday, August 20, 1953: Polio Takes Life of Michael Heyde, Age 7, Sunday: Michael Eugene Heyde, the seven-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Harlan A. Heyde of Moberly, died Sunday afternoon of polio in the isolation ward of the University hospital at Columbia, Mo. The lad became seriously ill of polio last Thursday and was taken to the University hospital that day where his condition is said to have become progressively worse until death came at about 4:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon. The body was brought to the Phillips mortuary here early Monday morning. Funeral services were held for him Tuesday afternoon at the Stanberry Baptist church, with the Rev. Don Stanley officiating. Burial was in High Ridge cemetery. Both the parents and their son were former Stanberry residents. Michael was born at Maryville while his parents were residents here. He was their only child. About five yeras ago the family moved to Moberly where they have since resided. The father is employed by the Sheffield Steel Corp. in Kansas City, but continued his residence in Moberly. Besides his parents, he also is survived by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Heyde of Stanberry and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Otha Swearingen of Maplewood, Mo.
