Kier, 84, St. Joseph, formerly of Stanberry, died Dec. 11, 2000, at a St. Joseph hospital. Mr. Kier had been employed as a custodian for the Stanberry R-II school and Mo. Western State College in St. Joseph for seven years. Then he worked as the night engineer for the St. Joseph School District until 1986. Born in Gentry County on Oct. 29, 1916, he had resided in the Albany and Stanberry areas before moving to St. Joseph in 1973. During World War II, Mr. Kier served in the Army. He was a member of the Frederick Boulevard Baptist Church and Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359, both of St. Joseph. On Dec. 31, 1941, he married Gertrude E. Stockton. She survives at the home. Additional survivors include a son, Ernest R. Stockton, Arlington, TX.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Kier was preceded in death by a daughter, Virginia A. Kier; and two sisters, Tressa Potter and Gladys Warner. Funeral services were held on Dec. 14 at the Johnson Funeral Home in Stanberry. Burial was in High Ridge Cemetery. Memorials may be given to Missouri Lions Eye Research Foundation in care of the funeral home or to his church.
