McCrea, 97, King City, died July 15, 2001, at King City Manor in King City. Mr. McCrea was born on a farm west of Fairport on July 31, 1903. He graduated from a rural Fairport school. Mr. McCrea was rancher and farmed north of Maysville, in the Berlin area. He raised registered Angus cattle, showing and selling his stock throughout the nation. Mr. McCrea was a member of the former Grace Community Church, King City; a 50 year member of Ancient Craft Masonic Lodge #377, King City and a member of the Scottish Rite Bodies and Moila Shrine Temple, both in St. Joseph. On Feb. 14, 1926, he married the former Charlotte B. Loest. She preceded him in death on July 25, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his parents, George and Ida (Burke) McCrea and a brother, Grayson McCrea. Survivors include a son, M. L. McCrea, Jr. and his wife, Suzanne, Maysville; two grandchildren, Andrew and Jill McCrea and a brother, William B. McCrea, King City. Funeral services were held on July 18 at the Gibson Funeral Home in King City, conducted by Rev. Gene Sholtz. Music was provided by Betty Jo Howitt, organist and Loren Clay, soloist. Pallbearers were: Andrew McCrea, Mike McCrea, Dean McCrea, Doug McCrea, Richard Loest and Ed Berg. Honorary pallbearers were: Stanley Berry, Wendell Berry, Darrell Keener and Jeff Cline. Interment was in Memorial Park Cemetery, St. Joseph. Masonic services, under the direction of Ancient Craft Lodge, were held at the funeral home on July 17. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Assoc. or a charity of the donors choice.
