All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond St. Joseph News-Press, Friday, May 27, 2005, page B2: Lela Faye Petty, 85, of St. Joseph, Mo., passed away peacefully on May 26, 2005, after a long illness at the living Community Center of St. Joseph. Lela was born to John T. and Ollie A. (Ross) Petty on Dec. 23, 1919, in the Alanthus Grove community near Stanberry, Mo., where she attended Fairview School and later on the Stanberry School. Lela was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanberry and also attended the Patee Park Baptist Church in St. Joseph. She spent a large part of her life in Stanberry, where she was employed by Vogt Poultry Co. She retired from the former Methodist Medical Center in 1983. Lela married Woodrow Leffler in 1984. They divorced in 1993. She enjoyed playing bingo and being among young people. Lela was preceded in death by three sisters and one brother, her twin sister, Lola Sybert; Beulah Schottel and Angeline Oyler; and John Petty. Survivors: two brothers, Raymond and James Petty, both of St. Joseph; eight nephews; 10 nieces; numerous grandnephews, grandnieces, great-nephews and great-nieces; and several cousins. Funeral service: 2 p.m. Saturday, May 28, at Roberson-Polley Chapel, Stanberry. There is no scheduled family visitation; however, friends may call anytime after 2 p.m. Friday, May 27, at the chapel. Burial: High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. The family suggests memorials to the Open Door Food Kitchen, Second Harvest Food Bank or a charity of the donor's choice.
