The son of the late John Scott and Georgia (Hill) Phillips, he was born Oct. 25, 1910, at Alanthus Grove. He was a lifetime resident of Stanberry where he farmed and served as high school custodian. He attended Mount Pleasant School and Stanberry High School. He was a member of the Stanberry United Methodist Church, the National Farmer's Organization and the Gentry County Historical Society. In addition to his parents, he was perceded in death by seven brothers, Joe, Perry, Robert, Wayne, Everett, Elza and John - and three sisters - Ruth Baker, Nellie Gunter and Trixie Laud. He married the former Goldie Eva Sager in Stanberry Dec. 24, 1938. She survives. Mr. Phillips also is survived by two sons, Dr. Elry Phillips, Springfield, and Gary Phillips, Republic; three brothers, James, Waverly, Kan.; Scott, Longmount, Colo., and Paul, Waverly, Kan.; three sisters, Rachel Hamman and Georgia Beason, both of Kansas City; and May Felker, Loveland, Colo.; two grandson and 2 granddaughters. Services were Apr. 9 at the Stanberry United Methodist Church with burial in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. The family suggests memorials to the Earl Phillips Scholarship Fund at Farmers State Bank, Stanberry.
