All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Headlight; Gentry County Missouri; Thursday, February 21, 1957: Final services were held yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon in the Stanberry Christian church for James Washington Poe, 82, who died suddenly following a heart attack at his home last Saturdy morning. The services were cnducted by the pastor, the Rev. O. Glenn Crosby, and burial was in High Ridge cemetery under the direction of the Phillips Mortuary, Stanberry. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Rachael Poe, of the home; four children, Crofford Poe, Albany; Cecil Poe, King City; Ben Poe, Washougal, Wash., and Mrs. Alma Branson, Stanberry; four brothers, Clarence Poe, King City; Earl and Frank Poe, both of Atchison county, and Dana Poe, Albany; three sisters, Mrs. Grace Shirrell, St. Joseph; Mrs. May Barrett Takrio, and Mrs. Goldie McCreary, Shenandoah, Ia.; 12 grandchildren and 23 great- grandchldren. Mr. Poe, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. George Crofford Poe, was born Aug. 24, 1874, near Denver, Mo. He and Miss Rachael Baker were united in marriage on Feb. 24, 1897, in Rock Port, Mo. They were making plans to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary on next Sunday. The Poes were engaged in farming in northwest Missouri until they moved to Stanberry from Craig, Mo., in 1940. He had been in semi-retirement since then.
