All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Stanberry Owl-Headlight, Gentry County, Missouri, Tuesday, February 14, 1911: Farmer Commits Suicide: Community Shocked at Awful Tragedy Saturday: The people of Stanberry and community were shocked when they heard that Ben Scarbrough, a farmer west of town, had committed suicide at an early hour Saturday morning. He was no doubt laboring uner a fit of temporary despondency over some real or fancied trouble. He got up to build a fire and taking a gun he placed the muzzle against his adbomen and pulled the trigger. The entire load of shot passed through his body, making a gaping wound. He lived some time after he committed the deed and was rational, talking to his neighbors, who were summoned by the cries of the family. His funeral occurred Monday morning the burial being at High Ridge. The family have the sympathy of all in this sad affair.
