The Tri-County News, Gentry County Missouri, Friday, July 25, 2003:
Marilyn J. Shanks, 72, Stanberry, died July 20, 2003, at Heartland Regional Medical Center in St. Joseph.

She was born Nov. 19, 1930, in Anderson, IN.; the daughter of Robert and Ida (Pascel) Hatt.

     A high school graduate, she later graduated from beauty school and worked
     as a hair dresser.

     In 1962, she married Fred "Fritz" Shanks.  He survives at the home.

     Additional survivors include children, Joyce Jones, Oklahoma City, OK.; Sue
     Price, King City; Joe Shanks, Frnaklin, TN.; Danny Shanks, Summerville,
     SC.; Fred Shanks, Paisley, FL.; a brother, Frances Swaim, Anderson, IN.; 11
     grandchildren; nine great-granchildren and several nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Larry Hatt.

     Funeral services were held on July 23 at the Johnson Funeral Home, with
     burial in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.
