Short, 86-year-old Stanberry resident, died about 9 o'clock last Thursday morning at the St. Francis hospital in Maryville, where she had been a patient for nine days. She had been in failing health for several months and was seriously ill since shortly before she was taken to the Maryville hospital. Funeral services were held for her Saturday afternoon at the Baptist church here, conducted by the Rev. Don Stanley, pastor of the church. Burial was in High Ridge cemetery. In the death of Mrs. Short, this community lost a life-long resident, and the Stanberry Baptist church one of its few remaining charter members. Mrs. Short united with the Island City Baptist church as a child and, when that church was moved to the new town of Stanberry in 1880, to become the basis of the Stanberry church. Mrs. Short's membership was transferred to the new church organization. The daughter of William and Eliza Leonard, she was born May 19, 1864, on a farm near the Floyd schoolhouse. She was married to Mr. Short on Aug. 27, 1882. They farmed in this vicinity until his death on Feb. 9, 1921. Mrs. Short had made her home in Stanberry since his death. Surviving are seven sons: Ira and Harvey, Stanberry; Logan, Hastings, Neb.; Elbert and William, Maryville; James, Webster Falls, Ok.; and Marvin, Muskogee, Ok. One daughter, Mrs. John Tatum, St. Joseph. She is also survived by one brother, Dan Leonard, Monett, Mo.; one sister, Mrs. Alice Ackins, Kansas City, Kan.; one half-sister, Mrs. Sarah Cameron, Webb City, Mo.; one half-brother, George Leonard, Farmington, Mo.; 16 grand- children, 15 great-grandchildren and other relatives.
