Stein, 80, St. Joseph, passed away on June 18, 2002, at a St. Joseph hospital. Mr. Stein was born on July 30, 1921, in Metcalf, IL. After moving to Stanberry he worked in his father's masonry business. He graduated from Stanberry High School in 1940; and in 1945 was the volunteer assistant football coach for the Stanberry Bulldogs. Later Mr. Stein moved to St. Joseph where he was a carpenter in the maintenance department of the St. Joseph State Hospital for 20 years. He was a member of the Ashland United Methodist Church, a social member of the Pony Express American Legion Post No. 359, Eagles Lodge No. 49, Charity Lodge No. 331, Scottish Rite, Moila Shrine Temple and High-Twelve Club. He married the former Rosalie Pierce on Jan. 7, 1950. She survives of the home. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Valverde (VanVactor) Stein. Other survivors include two nephews, Vernon E. Pierce, and his wife, Joan, Snyder, CO.; and Franklin J. Pierce, and his wife, Audrey, Fallon, NV.; and two nieces, Emilie Y. Roth, Sterling, CO.; and Jean Ann Thompson, Billings, MT. Services were held June 21, at the Ashland United Methodist Church, St. Joseph. Interment was in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. Memorials may be made to the Louis F. Stein Memoial Fund.
