All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Tri-County News, Gentry County Missouir, Friday, October 1, 2004: Alice (York) VanVactor, 94, Stanberry, died at Pine View Manor on Sept. 23, 2004. Born May 19, 1910; she was the daughter of Emmett and Nancy (Radar) York. She grew up in New Hampton, where she attended school and the new Hampton Methodist Church. In August of 1926, she married Samuel Victor England of Bethany. Three children were born to this union, Dean Vernon England, Seattle, WA.; Charles Huston England, who died in infancy and Marjorie Lee Sowards, Stanberry. Alice was a homemager and seamstress. She worked at the Defense Plant in Kansas City during World War II; moving to Albany in 1943, where she worked as a cook, waitress and clerk at various businesses in Albany. In October of 1948, she married Herbert Kendall VanVactor of Stanberry. They were the parents of one son, Herbert Kendall VanVactor, Jr. of Stanberry. Mr. VanVactor preceded his wife in death in January, 1989. She was also preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. In addition to her children, she is survived by seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Sunday, Sept. 26, at the Roberson-Polley Chapel in Stanberry. Burial was in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry. Memorials may be given to the Alice (York) VanVactor Memorial Fund.
