All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm Submitted by: Don Raymond The Tri-County News, Friday, May 20, 2005: Lorace E. Walton, 80, Stanberry, died May 15, 2005 at the Mo. Veterans Home in Cameron. He was born June 1, 1924 in Nodaway County; the son of Charles and Dollie (Hughbanks) Walton. The preceded him in death. Mr. Walton moved as a boy, with his parents, to a farm southwest of Stanberry. He attended Lafayette school and Stanberry high school. He served in the U. S. Merchant Marines during World War II. On April 30, 1949 he was united in marriage to Velva McMichael in Barnard. They moved to a farm near Lorace's boyhood home, where they raised livestock and crops and where their two sons were born. Mr. Walton retired from farming in 1989 and they moved to Stanberry. Mr. Walton is called into the Christian ministry during the early 1960's. He attended Bible College and was pastor of the Gentry, Pleasant Hill and Island City Christian Churches and the Mt. Zion Community Church. He was an active member of the Island City Christian Church, where he served as an elder and in other capacities, for many years. Survivors include his wife, Velva Walton, of the home; sons, Charles and Larry Walton, both of Stanberry and four grandchildren. Funeral services were held May 18, at Island City Christian Church. Burial as in Green Ridge Cemetery at Gentry. Memorials may be given to the Parkinson Foundation. Arrangements were handled by Roberson-Polley Chapel in Albany.
