Wharton, 73, of Stanberry passed away Sunday, Jan. 9, 2005 in Westlaco, Texas. Rex was born Aug. 12, 1931, near Alanthus Grove, Missouri. He was the son of Ted and Basha (Pierce) Wharton. They preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by one brother, Boyd Wharton. On Feb. 14, 1986, he was united in marriage to Shirlene Wilson. She survives of the home. Other survivors include one son, Steve Wharton; daughter, Kimberly Riese both of Terre Haute, IN.; step-sons, Jamie and David Messner both of Stanberry; brothers, Truman and Laton Wharton of Stanberry; sister, Ruby Bentley, Stanberry; Sharon Howell, Maryville; 5 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild and 4 step grandchildren. Rex was an army veteran. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Stanberry. Rex worked as a traveling salesman for Reiser Company of Boston, MA. before retiring. Funeral services were set for Friday, Jan. 14 at the First Baptist Church, Stanberry and were arranged by Roberson-Polley Chapel, Stanberry. Burial was to be in High Ridge Cemetery, Stanberry.
