He was born Aug. 7, 1916 in King City; the son of Charles and Anna (Morris) Wheatley. He was a 1935 graduate of King City high school, where he enjoyed all sports. On Oct. 9, 1941 he married Florence V. Stockton of Helena. He was a longtime farmer, northwest of King City. He was a lifetime member of the King City Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, elder and co- Sunday School treasure with his life-long friend, Bud Freeman. He also sang in the church choir for many years. Mr Wheatley was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, Donald, Lester, Tarlton and Howard and a sister Eileen (Wheatley) Preston. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Florence V. Wheatley, of the home; two sons, Ronald Wheatley, Kansas City and Donald and Lori Wheatley, King City; two grandsons, Ryan and Phillip Wells; great-grandchildren, Kori, Kaylee and Landon, all of King City; a cousin, Helen Gregory, Maryville and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on June 13 at the King City Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Dale O'Connell officiating. Music was provided by Betty Jo Howitt, organist. Pallbearers were David Eiberger, Dale Eiberger, Donald Eiberger, Harley Weddle, Greg Berry and Joel Kemp. Interment was in the King City Cemetery. Memorials may be given to the King City Presbyterian Church building fund in care of Gibson Funeral Home, P.O. Box 552, King City, MO.
