Biographical Sketch of Thomas J. Hawkins, Greene County, Missouri, Boone Township >From "History of Greene County, Missouri," St. Louis: Western Historical Company, 1883. ********************************************************************** This gentleman was born July 6th, 1847, in Tennessee, but his parents emigrating to Missouri when he was two years of age, he grew up and was educated in Missouri. They first stopped in Dade County, but shortly afterward removed to Cedar. They lived in Cedar until 1864, and then moved to Greene County, where he has since lived. He was educated chiefly at Stockton, Cedar County, and after coming to Greene he foll- owed farming until 1874, when he served an apprenticeship in black- smithing, and opened a shop of his own in 1876. He has built up a good trade, and is one of the substantial men of Ash Grove. He commenced running his shop in connection with Mr. Daniel Murray's wagon shop in 1881, and they do excellent work, and are deservedly successful. Mr. Hawkins was married in 1874 to Miss Sarah R., daughter of John Tyler, one of Greene's early settlers.
