Biographical Sketch of Benjamin F. Huntington, Greene County, Missouri, Springfield >From "History of Greene County, Missouri," St. Louis: Western Historical Company, 1883. ********************************************************************** This gentleman is the son of Ambrose and Parmelia (Keeler) Huntington, and was born August 2nd, 1843, at Mexico, Oswego county, New York. At the age of fourteen he was bound out to his uncle and learned the tailor's trade, at Watertown, New York, serving seven years. In 1849 he went to California by way of the Isthmus of Panama. He lived in California about fifteen years, following at his trade and mining. In 1866 he came to Springfield, Mo., where he has since lived, working at his trade. He has been very successful in building up a good business. His shop is on the north side of College street, in the old Presley Beal property, one of the landmarks of Springfield. He employs several hands and carries a fine line of goods, both imported and American. He was married to Miss Ellen E. McElhaney. Their union was blest with one daughter, now dead. He is a member of the I. O. O. F., Harmony Lodge No. 71, and his wife is a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church.
