Biographical Sketch of Ernst Speaker, Springfield, Greene County, MO

Ernst Speaker is the son of John and Sophia speaker, and was born in
the province of Mechlenburg, Germany, in September, 1847.  He came to
the United States when six or seven years of age, and located at Fort
Smith, Arkansas, where he learned the tinner's trade.  In November,
1867, he came to Springfield, Missouri, where he followed his trade
until September, 1880.  Then, in partnership with G. W. Hackney, they
opened out a large stock of stoves and tinware, where they do a flour-
ishing business at 217 Boonville street.  Hackney & Speaker is one of
the solid firms in the city, and they deserve the success they have
met.
