Biographical Sketch of James A. Stoughton, Greene County, Missouri,
North Springfield

Mr. Stoughton was born in Charleston, Vermont, May 25, 1837.  When he
was twenty years of age he went to Western Texas and engaged in the
cattle business for eight years.  He then came to Springfield in 1867,
and has been living in North Springfield since 1870.  He was married
January 15, 1875, to Miss Lizzie Adams.  This union has been blest with
three children, viz.: Frank K., Minnie and Benjamin W.  Mr. Stoughton
is director of the bank, superintendent of the street railway company,
of which he is one-third owner, and proprietor of the large brick 
stable of North Springfield.  He is one of the most energetic, enter-
prising men of the city, and is at present in charge of the "Frisco"
stockyards.
