Proof Required Under Amendatory Homestead Act March 21, 1864

Hiram H. CAMPBELL, submitted this proof at the Land Office, Springfield, Greene 
County, Missouri on October 24, 1871:

We Sylvester BLACKWELL and James H.CAMPBELL do solemly swear that we have known 
Hiram H. CAMPBELL for over 8 years last past; that he is the head of a family 
consisting of wife and 3 children and is a citizen of the United States and is 
an inhabitant of the Lots 1&2 of the NE ¼ sec. No. 5 in Township No. 29 of 
Range No. 23 and that no other person resided uon the said land entitled to the 
right of Homestead of Pre-emption.

That the said Hiram H. CAMPBELL entered upon and made settlement on the 15th 
day of September 1865, and had built a house thereon of hewed logs 16ft by 34 
ft with plank floor, stone chimmney, 4 doors, 2 windows and is a comfortable 
house to live in. Has lived in the said house and made it his exclusive home 
from the 15th day of September 1865, to the present time, and that he has since 
said settlement ploughed, fenced, and cultivated about 20 acres of said land, 
and has made the following improvements thereon, to wit: built a stable 12ft by 
32ft, smoke house, corn crib, and planted a orchard of one hundred fruit trees, 
and thus dug 4 wells.
