He and his family lived in Springfield, MO for many years. +++ This is an obituary for William George Evans from the Waco Times-Herald on January 21, 1901, page 5: W. G. EVANS DEAD. An Aged and Venerable Citizen Passes Away-Had Been Married over Fifty Years- The Funeral William G. Evans, aged 82 years, died at his home No. 922 North Thirteenth street, yesterday morning at 7 o'clock after a short illness, though he had been in feeble health for some time. He was surrounded by his family and everything possible was done to make his last hours easy. In the death of Mr. Evans this county has lost one of the oldest and most valued citizens and the entire citizenship will mourn. The deceased was born in Kentucky, February '18, 1819, and was herefore 82 years of age. After remaining in Kentucky for some years Mr. Evans moved with his parents to Missouri where he lived until the breaking out of the civil war, after which he came to Texas settling in Speegleville in this county, March 20, 1862. He had planned to come to Texas before the breaking out of the war and had sent his household goods and his negroes to this state. When the war broke out he enlisted under General Price and participated in the battle of Wilson Creek. He saw no more service in the army and came to Texas with his family. After remaining at the first place of location at Speegleville, Mr. Evans a few years afterwards moved to Robinson and purchased land. Here he remained until 1887, at which time he moved to Waco and has since remained in this city. Mr. Evans was married to Miss Sallie R. Baker in Burkesville, Kentucky March 29, 1849, and has lived happily with her since that time. She survives him and although 72 years of age is hale and hearty, though she is heart broken over the loss of her bosom companion, with whom for half a century she has fought life's battle. Six children have blessed their married life, four of whom survive and live in Waco. They are Chas. R., Miss Lizzie, W. W., ex-county judge of the county, and Mrs. Mariah Sleeper. The life of the deceased has been indeed and exemplary one. He has always been unpretentious gentleman, an honest citizen, a devoted christian, a devoted father, and a loving husband. For sixty years Mr. Evans has been a constant member of the Baptist church and thirty years a deacon in the church. Since his removal to Waco he has been a member of the First Baptist church and only a week ago he with the rest of the family withdrew from the First Baptist church to go into the new church that is being organized in North Waco [the Columbus Street Baptist Church]. In church as well as business he was constant active and true and in his death, a valuable and honored citizen passes away. The funeral will be from the residence this morning at 10:30 o'clock. Revs. A. W. McGehe(?) and J. O. Kendall officiating. The following are the pall bearers: Active-Judge W. M. Sleeper, J. W. McKee, W. T. Abernathy, Judge Williams, and Judge W. H. Jenkins. Honorary-R. H. Harrison, Seth P. Mills, L. B. Black, T. P. Sparks, John F. Sedwick, and Joe Clifton. The interment will be at Oakwood cemetery[Waco, TX]. The family have the loving sympathy of the entire city in their bereavement.
