EVANS Resident County, 64 Years; Beloved Resident of Waco Charles Evans, 74 years old, died this morning at 5:45 at his home, 2100 Colcord avenue. He had been ill for the past year, but his death was rather sudden. The funeral will take place tomorrow afternoon at 4 o'clock, from the Columbus Street Baptist church, with the pastor, Rev. F. B. Thorn, officiating, assisted by Rev. C. W. Peyton of Temple. Interment will be made in Oakwood. Active pallbearers are: F. M. Allen, W. B. Thompson, O. M. Weatherby, Ed Turner, D. S. Dodson and W. C. Gilmore. The honorary pallbearers will be the other deacons of the Columbus Street church. Born in Springfield, Mo., Nov. 25, 1851, Mr. Evans had been a resident of McLennan county for the last 64 years. He came to this county with his parents at the age of 10 years, they first locating at Speegleville. A year later they moved to Robinson. Mr. Evans had been a resident of Waco for the last 38 years. Beloved Resident Waco. Probably no man in Waco was more highly esteemed or more universally beloved than Mr. Evans. He had in his heart a great love for his fellowman, while his innate goodness was too well known and too generally recognized to make comment necessary. Mr. Evans was a keen observer, a man of considerable ability in a literary way. He had often contributed articles to the [Waco] Times-Herald, on pertinent topics of the day, while his poems were exceptionally meritorious, having been read by many here and in other places. He kept well informed as to current events, being well posted on world happenings. During the greater part of his residence in McLennan county Mr. Evans devoted his time to agricultural pursuits. He retired from service life some time ago. He was a most sincere and devout Christian, a man whose religion was both practical and sincere. In every way he endeavored to follow the teachings and example of the Master, and his life was filled to the utmost with good deeds and efforts in behalf of others. He had been a member of the Baptist church since early childhood, being one of the organizers of the Columbus Street Baptist church. He was a deacon in that church. Surviving Mr. Evans are his wife, three sons, W. G. and Robert Evans, Waco; Charles Evans, Los Angeles; two daughters, Mrs. John T. Willis, Mrs. J. M. Kendrick, Waco; two sisters, Mrs. M. E. Sleeper and Miss Lizzie Evans, both of Waco. ++++++++++++++++++++++ Charles Evans was born Nov. 25, 1851 in Springfield, MO. He was the son of William George Evans and Sallie/Sarah Isabel Baker Evans. Charles Evans, Sr. married Nannie C. Sleeper on Feb. 4, 1880 in McLennan County. Rev. Dr. Samuel A. King of the First Presbyterian Church of Waco officiated at their marriage. He died June 26, 1926 in Waco. He was a charter member of the Columbus Avenue Baptist Church of Waco.
