Grundy County, Missouri Pioneer's - Samuel McNeal Samuel McNeal-Civil War vet.-2 Mo. Cav. Union army My wife's great, great grandfather served in Company E-2 Missouri Cav.-"Merill's Horse" in the Union army. He died in 1871 and is buried in Sires Cemetery in Trenton, Missouri under a cedar tree. His tomestone is badly eroded and leaning. No marker is shown denoting his civil war service. In the 1960s cemetery inventory Samuel McNeal is listed as "a pioneer". He was a gold miner in California in 1849 and emigrated from Lancaster, Ohio to Trenton, Missouri about 1855. I applaud your efforts to record this valuable history that is slipping away due to family neglect. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
