BANTA BIOGRAPHIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== BANTA, C. Banta was born in Cole County, Missouri, (now Moniteau) January 1, 1833, and is the third in a family of twelve children of whom eight are now living. His father was Henry Banta, and his mother's maiden name was Fanny Don Carlos, of Spanish descent. Her father was a soldier of the revolutionary struggle, and fought in the battle of Cowpens. In 1848 his parents came to Henry County and settled on Tebo, where they lived until 1861, then emigrating to the Pacific Coast, where they are still living. In 1852 Mr. Banta went to California and remained there until 1857, engaged in mining and lumbering. On his return to Missouri he settled on a farm. During a portion of the war he served in the militia. In 1866 he settled on his present farm, which consists of 640 acres, in a good state of cultivation. He is largely engaged in stock raising. Mr. Banta was married in Cooper County June 28, 1859, to Miss Mary Smith, a native of Cole County. They have four children living: Christopher C., William Sherman, Mary Frances and Artie. His niece, Bettie Banta is also a member of his family. Mr. Banta is a man of liberal views and is much interested in education, showing his interest by giving his children the advantages of the best schools in the state.
