BLAKEMORE BIOGRAPHIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== BLAKEMORE, George H. - b: 1832 Augusta Co, VA source: 1883 History of Henry Missouri , National Historical Co. - page: 498 residence: Clinton George H. Blakemore, dealer in hardware and agricultural implements, a native of Augusta County, Virginia, was born July 22. 1832. His father, William C. Blakemore, was also born in that county, as was his mother, Mary A. (Newman) Blakemore. They were reared and married there, the former dying in 1859, and the latter in 1848. George was brought up as a farmer; boy, and was educated in the schools of that period. When twenty-one years of age he emigrated to Pettis County, Missouri, and engaged in the tinner's trade, which he thoroughly learned, till the fall of 1859, when he came to Clinton, Missouri. Here he embarked in business, handling stoves and tinware, under the firm name of Blakemore & Co. In 1862, on account of the war, he went to Adams County, Illinois, and gave his attention to farming, going thence in a year to Idaho City, Idaho Territory. For a short time he was engaged there in mining, and later followed that business through Washington, Montana and Oregon Territories for twenty-eight months. In July, 1866, he returned to Clinton, and worked at his trade with Houx & Bigsby, for eight months, they closing out to Kimbrough & Bro. After that time he remained with this firm as a jour workman till 1871, then becoming a partner in the concern, which was known as Kimbrough & Co. They were in business together until September, 1878, when Mr. K. sold his interest to Mr. Blakemore, who has since continued the business. He was united in marriage January 15, 1861, to Miss Mary F. Ragland, a native of Missouri. They have three children: Nathaniel J., George O. and Jene A. Mr. B. is a member of the M. E.
