Michael J. Duggan, pastor of the Montrose Catholic Church, was born in the city of Brooklyn, New York, October 24, 1854. His parents, Michael and Mary Duggan, nee McGowan, were natives of Ireland, the former having emigrated to the United States when a young man, settling in Brooklyn. M. J. subsequently moved to Newberg, on the Hudson River, where he grew to manhood. He attended the schools of that city, after which he spent nine years at the Jesuit College, where he graduated in 1874, receiving the degree of bachelor of arts. After completing his course at this college, he passed three years at St. Josephs' Provincial Seminary, preparing for the priesthood. He then spent six months at the Salesianum in Milwaukee, and was then for three years in St. Bonaventure Seminary in Allegany, N.Y. Upon finishing the course of study here, Mr. Duggan was ordered to Kansas City by the bishop in 1881, and was ordained priest on September 11, of that year. After his ordination he was appointed pastor of the Montrose Catholic Church, and the churches at Clinton and Schell City are also in the charge.
