Hardeman, M.D., one of the leading members of the medical fraternity in this locality, was born in Saline County, Missouri, February 27, 1855. His father, Dr. G. O. Hardeman, was a native of Howard County, and his mother, formerly Permelia A. Townsend, of Cooper County, Missouri. John L. accompanied his parents to Franklin County in 1857 and located at Gray's Summit, where his youth was spent in attending the public schools. There he received his primary education, and was also for one year a student at Pritchett's Institute, and the two following years at the State University. He began the study of medicine with his father, and attended lectures at the St. Louis Medical College, where he graduated March 8, 1878. After completing his course the doctor commenced the practice of his profession at Brownington the same year, remaining there about two months, when he moved to LaDue and practiced there one year. In April, 1879, he returned to Brownington, and since then has built up a large and increasing practice, and by constant study he keeps apace with the progress of the profession. Dr. Hardeman was married in Franklin County to Miss Lizzie Jeffries, a daughter of Dr. Charles Jeffries and a native of that county. They have one child, Elvira P., who was born August 2, 1880. Mrs. H. is a member of the M. E.
