Jennings first came to Clinton, Missouri, in 1871. He is a native of Kennebeck County, Maine, and he was born February 11, 1853. He received his education at the Maine Wesleyan College at Kent's Hill, that state. After coming to Clinton he was for several years engaged in teaching school and studying law with C. B. Wilson. In 1875 he removed to Indiana, where for two years he held the position of superintendent of the city schools of Covington, and the following two years a similar position at Russelville, that state. In 1879 he returned to Henry County, Missouri, and began the practice of law, making his residence at Calhoun for two years.
