PATTEN BIOGRAPHIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== PATTEN, Joseph - b: 1830 Bourbon Co, KY source: 1883 History of Henry Missouri , National Historical Co. - page: 617 residence: Deepwater Twp Joseph Patten was born in Bourbon County, Kentucky, July 23, 1830. His parents, Hugh and Jane (Nesbut) Patten, were both natives of Kentucky, and the former was born in 1795. Hugh Patten spent his life on the farm where he was born and died at the age of seventy-one years. Joseph grew to manhood in the county of his birth, attending for a time the common subscription schools, but the principal part of his education has been obtained by self application. He came to Missouri in September, 1858, and in April, 1859, located in Henry County, where he purchased land and improved the farm upon which he now resides. He sold 140 acres of his original farm to the town company for the town site in 1870, and has at present 150 acres well improved, with the exception of seventeen acres of timber. There are seventy acres devoted to tame grass. His large residence is located in the suburbs of the city, in connection with which is a good barn, out buildings and an orchard. Mr. Patten was married in Callaway County, Missouri, December 23, 1858, to Miss Louisa West, a native of St. Louis County and a daughter of Alvin West, of Kentucky. Her mother was born in Virginia.
