The subject of this sketch originally from New York, was born March 27, 1832. His father, Jacob W. Raymond, was a native of Massachusetts, and was born in 1802. He was reared in Vermont, and was there married to Miss Mary Powers, who was born in that state. They moved to New York in 1831, and in the fall of 1842, came to Benton County, Missouri. The father died in Hickory County, Missouri, in 1864. George was brought up and educated in Benton County, and spent his youthful days in farming. He remained a resident of that county till February, 1868, when he came to Henry County, settling on a part of the farm he now owns. Upon arriving here he had comparatively nothing, but by his energy, perseverance and close attention to business, he has risen to prominent financial standing. He now has a well improved farm of 170 acres, and is known as one of the most successful farmers in his township. Mr. Raymond was married July 26, 1854, to Miss Lydia Fuqua, a Kentuckian by birth. They have four children: Paschal W., Mary M., John W. and Horace R.
