BACKMAN OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== BACKMAN, Ida TUBBESING 1903 - 1952 Ida Tubbesing Backman Dies - Many Henry Countians were saddened at news of the death of Mrs. R. H. Backman, the former Ida Tubbesing, on Nov. 20, 1952, at a Rolla, MO, hospital which she entered Nov. 18 when her condition became critical. She went by ambulance from her home at St. James, MO, and was placed in an oxygen tent but never regained consciousness. Ida, daughter of Henry and Isabelle Stutte Tubbesing, was born Dec. 9, 1903, one mile east of Quarles. There she grew to young womanhood, attending the Comer grade school and the Shawnee Mound high school, and at an early age she became a member of the Quarles Baptist Church. As a young woman she was a telephone operator in St. Louis for several years. On Nov. 27, 1929, she married Rinehard H. Backman and to this union three children were born: Annabelle (now Mrs. Wm. Lore of Granite City, IL), Charles, 16, and Helen, 8, of the home. Shortly after her marriage she was confirmed in the Lutheran Church and as long as health permitted she was active in all church and community affairs. The Backmans first established their home in St. Louis, later moving to Chicago, and six years ago to Cuba, MO. Last spring they moved near St. James, MO, where Mr. Backman operated a large registered Angus farm. Mrs. Backman had suffered from a serious heart condition and complications for several years but was always prone to overtax her strength. She had made plans for a family reunion Nov. 27, at the home of her sister, Mrs. Anna Manning of Jefferson City, celebrating Thanksgiving, the Backmans' 23rd wedding anniversary and Mr. Backman's birthday. Mrs. Backman had the love and respect of every community in which she lived. With the sterling qualities which characterize her family, her life was one of usefulness and blessing. This was reflected in the many expressions of sympathy that came from relatives and friends everywhere. Survivors, besides her husband and children, above mentioned, are two sisters, Mrs. Anna Manning, Jefferson City, and Miss Ruby Tubbesing, Kansas City; two brothers, Garrett Tubbesing, Blairstown, and Henry Tubbesing, Clinton. A sister, Mrs. Audie Childers, died a few months ago. Funeral services were held at St. John's Lutheran Church at St. James at 1:30 p.m., Nov. 23, with burial in the Masonic Cemetery there. A lovely musical number for the service was given by a prize winning teenage choir from Cuba of which Charles Backman had been a member. Mr. and Mrs. Garrett Tubbesing, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Tubbesing and daughter, Miss Gretchen, attended last rites. The two brothers and wives also drove to Rolla Thursday to see Mrs. Backman just before her death. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
