BOLES, Mary Emmaline DUNNING 1842 - 1922

Mary Emmaline Dunning was born near Wylona, Trig county, Kentucky, December 5, 
1842 and entered into her rest September 29, 1922, aged 79 years, 9 months and 
14 days.  Her parents were Harry and Nancy Dunning.  The Dunning family came to 
Missouri in 1848, coming through in covered wagons, her mother driving a team 
of horses and her father a team of oxen.  It was always a great pleasure to all her 
nieces and nephews and her three grandchildren to listen to the stories of their 
experiences along their journey to Missouri.  There were five girls with their 
parents, Aunt Mary being only 6 years old.  The others have all preceded her to 
their heavenly home.  They settled on the old Dunning homestead, northwest of 
Deepwater, where lives the rest of her father's family - her only brother, 
William Dunning and her maiden sister, Miss Nancy Jane Dunning.  In August, 
1866, the subject of this sketch was united in marriage with Nicholas W. Boles, 
who has been dead since September 27, 1876.  To this union were born two 
children - Linda and Lee Boles.  Both have preceded her to their heavenly home.  
Lina left her husband and three little children - George, Mamah and Archie, whom 
Aunt Mary, their grandmother took as her very own and mothered them and raised 
them all to be young men and women, and with her brother and sister, these three 
grandchildren and and one great granddaughter, whom she loved so much, are left 
to mourn her departure.  She had lived on the Boles homestead, just north of 
Deepwater, near the railroad, for the past 56 years, 46 years of this time she had 
lived a widow.  She was a true friend, always upright and honest, and her 
devotions to her loved ones would make a bright chapter in any life.  While she 
has gone from the scene, the conflicts, the sorrows and the pleasures of life, she 
will still live on in the hearts of her loved ones and of those who knew her best.  
She was a member of the Deepwater Baptist church, uniting there under the 
pastorate of Brother J. F. Sherman, 14 years ago.  We are all glad Aunt Mate, as 
we always called her, did not have to linger and suffer as many have to do at her 
age, but that the end came sudden, as she had said many times she wanted to go 
that way when her time come to go.  Yet we know she suffered.  It was not long, 
as on Friday morning she was going about her work as usual and that afternoon 
she was taken ill and all was done for her that could be done by her grandchildren 
and Dr. Russell.  She passed away at 4:30, being only sick about three hours.  Her 
funeral was conducted at her late home by Brother J. M. Ramsey at 1:30 Sunday 
afternoon and her body was tenderly laid to rest beside her husband in the 
Dunning cemetery, near the home of her childhood days. - Her niece, Mrs. Lottie 
Braun.
