BURTON OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== BURTON, Columbus Fairfax 1862 - 1934 Clinton Eye, Thursday, Aug 23 1934 - C. F. Burton passed away at the home of his son, Oscar, in Garland, Sunday afternoon about 2:25. Mr. Burton had suffered with a cancer on his face for a number of years and had taken treatments at two different places and been under the care of several doctors, but was unable to get the cancer removed. The past several years he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Geo. Kunchoff, who with her husband, gave him excellent care, took him to doctors and to Kansas City for radium treatments and did everything possible to relieve his intense suffering. About two months ago he came to his son Oscar's home, and was no worse than usual until the middle of last week when he had a spell with his heart. Since then his other sons, Hugh M. and wife of near LaDue and Elsworth and wife, as well as Mrs. Kunchoff and husband had been at his bedside most of the time. An older daughter, Mrs. C. R. Smith, of Montrose, and a niece, Mrs. C. Querry, of Huntingdale, with their husbands, were there Saturday evening. Another son, Riley, of St. Louis, and a daughter, Mrs. J. E. Martin, Collinsville, Oklahoma, also came for the funeral. Columbus Fairfax Burton was born in Stiles, Iowa, March 8, 1862. he came to Missouri when he was 19 and lived here one year, then returned to Iowa to marry Miss Lina Lister. He and his bride came to Missouri soon after their marriage and settled near Petersburg. Eight children were given their union, two of whom preceded their father in death. Mrs. Burton died April 1, 1903, and two years later Mr. Burton and Ida Salsbury were married, they had one child, and Mrs. Burton died in 1912. Throughout his life Mr. Burton was believer in God, the Bible as His word, and Christ. During a revival conducted recently by Revs. Humphrey and Gray he confessed his faith in Christ to them in his home. He helped build the Salem church both by giving of his finances and donating work, and always took his family to church and Sunday school. Besides his children, Mr. Burton is survived by 21 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and the following brothers: John Burton, Bloomfield, Ia., W. A. Burton, Tulsa, Okla., D. L. Burton, Parsons, Kans., and Grant Burton, Mayview, Mo.; also three half-brothers, Frank, Jess, and Morgan Paris of Lexington. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Wade Johnson at the Garland Baptist chuch, Tuesday morning with the burial at Salem cemetery. Wilkinson Funeral Service was in charge. BURTON, Doris LaVerne HARBSTREET 1927 - 1993 Doris LaVerne Burton, daughter of Archie O. Harbstreet and Jewell Kathleen Ford Harbstreet, was born June 26, 1927 at Hartwell and entered into rest December 29, 1993 at Charter Community Hospital, Hawaiian Gardens, California, at the age of 66. She had lived in Long Beach, California for 47 years. She was married to Jack E. Burton who preceded her in death in May, 1988. She was a member of the Hartwell Baptist Church. She is survived by two sons, Stanley Burton, Lakewood, California, and Kevin Burton, Long Beach, California; her parents, Archie and Kathleen Harbstreet, Clinton, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services were held at the Vansant-Mills Chapel, Thursday, January 6, 1994 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Howard Cupp, Jr. officiating. "Beyond The Sunset" and "The Old Rugged Cross" were sung by David L. Mills and Peggy Arthur with Mrs. Arthur playing the organ. Pallbearers were Dale Hubbard, Ernie Barnhart, Donald Burton, Joshua Burton, Clifford Hubbard and Kenneth Vogt. Burial was in the Norris Cemetery, Urich. BURTON, Francis Milton 1917 - 1949 Clinton Eye, Thursday, Nov 3 1949 - Services Here For Milton Burton - The body of Milton Burton, 31, who died Tuesday, Nov. 1, at Marshall, Mo., was brought to Clinton by Wilkinson's and funeral arrangements will be made upon the arrival of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Carl M. Burton of Council, Idaho. He also leaves five brothers and a sister. He was born and reared in Henry County, the family leaving here about 10 years ago. He had been in ill health for sometime. Mrs. Ira Lane is an aunt. BURTON, Glenn Allen 1932 - 1991 Kansas City Star, Kansas City, MO - Glenn Allen Burton, 58, Holden MO. formerly of this area, died May 18, 1991, at a hospital in Warrensburg, MO. He was born in Henry County, MO. June 30, 1932, and lived in this area more than twenty years before moving to Holden 14 years ago. Mr. Burton was a farmer in the Holden area. He had worked for the American Alloys Corp. ant the Coca-Cola Bottling Company of Mid America Inc. in the Kansas City area. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, east of Pittsville, MO. He was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America. Survivors include his wife, Nancy Sperry Burton; two sons, Robert Burton, Raytown, and Michael Burton, Holden; a daughter, Martha McClure, Centerview, MO.; two brothers, Hugh Burton, and Wayne Burton of Independence MO.; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday at the church, burial in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton MO. Friends may call from 7 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Holden Chapel, Warrensburg. The family suggests contributions to the church building fund BURTON, Grant R. 1851 - 1949 Clinton Eye, Thursday, Sep 1 1949 - Dies At Ninety-Eight: Grant Burton, 98 years old, died at noon last Thursday at the home of Miss Viola M. Owen, 316 North Water St., where he had lived for the last month. He suffered a light stroke while eating luncheon. Surviving are three nephews, Ken Burton, Clinton, and Oscar and Ellsworth Burton of Garland; a niece, Mrs. Opal Kunchoff, near Green Ridge; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Mary Burton, Clinton. Funeral services were held at the Fred Wilkinson Funeral Home Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, with the Rev. George McConnell officiating. Burial was in Salem cemetery near Norris. BURTON, Oscar Edward 1885 - 1968 Oscar Edward Burton, formerly of the Garland Community passed away November 29, 1968 at Nevada, Missouri. He was born February 2, 1885, near Maurine in Henry County, Missouri, the second child of eight children of Lina Lister and Columbus Fairfax Burton. He lived almost his entire life in Henry County. During his lifetime, Mr. Burton was a farmer and farm hand. Although he never married, he was devoted to his nieces and nephews and helped to care for them as if they were his own. He is survived by one brother, Riley Burton, Seattle, Wash., two sisters, Mrs. Emma Martin, Collinsville, Okla., Mrs. Bertha Smith, Osceola, Mo., a half-sister, Opal Kunchoff, Clinton, Mo., also several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Hugh and Ellsworth, two sisters, Mrs. Florence Salmon and Winifred Burton. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Dec. 1, 1968 at Sickman-Dunning Funeral Home with the Rev. Roy Southers officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs. Roy Southers. Burial was in Salem Cemetery near Norris by the side of his parents.
