CLOSE, Alfred 1827 - 1887

Clinton Eye Feb 3 1887 - On the 28th ult. Alfred Close departed this life at his 
home 3 miles southwest of Clinton, his disease being typhoid pneumonia. Born in 
Indiana Feb. 5, 1827 and in 1850 moved to Illinois where he met and married 
Elizabeth R. Deel a year later, who now survives him. In 1853 he started for 
California but did not remain long and in 1856 landed in Illinois again, coming to 
Henry county in 1871, purchasing a farm one-half mile west of where he lived at 
the time of his death. He was an exemplary man, and well liked by his neighbors, 
never forgetting a kind act. His neighborhood has lost a true friend and the wife a 
grand and good husband. Dr. Jones conducted the funeral at the grave at 
Englewood.
