COLSON OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== COLSON, Mary Elinor PHELPS 1915 - 1999 Clinton Daily Democrat Jan 14 2000 - Mary Elinor Phelps Colson, daughter of Jess B. and Birdie Warner Phelps, was born December 2, 1915, east of Appleton City. She died December 26, 1999, at the age of 83, after many years of heart problems, including open heart surgery in 1970 and a stroke in 1994. She attended White Hall grade school and graduated from Appleton City High School in 1934. Soon after graduation she worked in Kansas City for a short time. Leaving there she went to Idaho, then later to Nevada. In the spring of 1938 she moved to Tulare, California, to join her sister, Cleta Bernardi and her brother, Clarence Phelps. On September 16, 1938, she was united in marriage with Walter Murriel (Bill) Coalson. To this union one son, Donald, and one daughter, Janet, were born. She was a devoted mother and spent many hours working for the betterment of her family and the community where they lived. She was a charter member of the Palo Verde PTA in which she held many offices, including president. She helped to organize the Palo Verde 4-H Club, where she was a project leader and cooking instructor. She served on the Board of directors of the Palo Verde School for several years. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Tulare. She was preceded in death by her mother, father, brother and sister. She is survived by her husband, Walter Murriel of the home; her son, Donald Colson; her daughter, Janet Kaiser, both of Tulare; three grandchildren, Craig Colson of Bakerfield, California, Chris Colson and Sheri Aillo, both of Tulare, and five great- grandchildren, Catlyn Samantha, Corina, Blake and Chase. Services were 2 p.m. Thursday at Hamilton Peers Lorentzen Funeral Chapel, with burial in Tulare Cemetery.
