COOPER OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== COOPER, Arthur Neal n/a - 1996 Arthur Neal Cooper died Sunday, April 28, 1996, at the Golden Valley Hospital after a short illness. He was born in Brownington and grew up in Henry County. He attended Clinton High School and performed as a standout athlete in basketball and baseball. After high school he played simi-pro baseball for the Clinton town team. In 1939 he married Elizabeth Booth and remained married for 56 years. They have twin sons, Jean and Jan, who are married to Diann and Marcia, respectively. He is survived by three grandsons and a sister, Anita Woerner of Clinton. Neal joined the Army Air Corps during WW II and became a pilot. He served in Europe until the end of the war. Upon his return he joined the Missouri National Guard and became commander of the Clinton artillery battery. He retired from the National Guard in 1970 as a full colonel after serving as the air defense commander for the Kansas City area. During the time he served in the National Guard, he was also employed for the Postal Service. He began working for the Post Office in 1936 soon after graduation from high school. He became Postmaster in 1971. After 40 years with the Post Office he retired in 1976. His skills as a referee were recognized by being selected to officiate the Missouri State High School basketball finals for three years in a row. Memorial services were held at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 1, 1996, at the Christian Church of Clinton. COOPER, Martha E. GALLIHUGH 1923 - 1996 Martha E. Cooper, 72, Brunswick, formerly of Blairstown, died Tuesday, June 25, 1996, at Fitzgibbon Hospital in Marshall. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 28, at Heisel-Koch Funeral Home Brunswick Chapel at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Glen Drewitz officiating. Cremation. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 29 at Blairstown Cemetery. Mrs. Cooper was born in Blairstown on July 19, 1923. Her father was Charles W. Gallihugh and her mother was Daisy A. Tiffy Gallihugh. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Cooper, in 1990. She was a homemaker. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Brunswick and she did volunteer work on the Braille books at the Lutheran Church in Brunswick. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She is survived by one son, Ross Washburn, Brunswick; two daughters, Diane Chrouser, Columbia, and Connie Massey of Lee's Summit; one step-son, Jack Cooper, Wichita, Ks.; one brother, William Gallihugh of Chilhowee; five grandchildren, three step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
