CORNETT OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== CORNETT, John Braxton 1854 - 1944 John Braxton Cornett was born April 14, 1854 in White Oak township, Henry County, Mo. He passed away at seven o'clock, Thursday evening, June 22, 1944 at the age of 90 years, 2 months and 8 days, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Pressie Hampton. He was united in marriage to Sarah Blevins May 30, 1879, and spent 58 years at the farm home 4 1/2 miles east of Urich, Mo. She passed away July 20, 1938. He is survived by five daughters: Mrs. Pressie Hampton and Mrs. Pearlie Sanders, both of Urich; Mrs. Hallie Marksberry of Harrisonville, Mo.; Mrs. Eva Hunter of Kansas City Mo. and Mrs. Bonnie Sanders of Kansas City, Mo. Four grandchildren also survive. They are: Lucille Hunter Montsinger of Kansas City, Mo.; Virgie Marksberry Weess of Urich, Mo., Chester Marksberry of Clarkesville, Iowa. Ten great grandchildren also survive. The pallbearers were; John Grasher, Bill Goodman, J. W. Nuhn, Lee Blevins, Albert Mendenhall and Rolla Slayton. Mrs. J. R. Brewer and Mrs. Inez Hall sang two songs at the services. The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Urich Baptist Church, with the pastor, Rev. Jess Harman in charge. Burial was in the Norris cemetery. The Fred Wilkinson Funeral Home of Clinton were in charge of the arrangements. CORNETT, Sarah Jane BLEVINS 1879 - 1938 Mrs. J. B. Cornett`s earthly life came to a close at 1:35 p.m. Sunday, July 31, 1938 at the home place 4 1/2 miles east of Urich, Mo. Her age was 79 years. She had been afflicted with heart trouble and high blood pressure but she had been in her usual health until Wednesday, July 20 when she suffered a fall. Mrs. Cornett`s maiden name was Sarah Jane Blevins. She was born near Hartwell, Mo. and was the daughter of Press and Nancy Ann Blevins. On May 30, 1879 she was united in marriage with John B. Cornett. They have spent the last 58 years at the present home place. Besides her companion of many years, she is survived by five daughters - Mrs. Harve (Tressie B.) Hampton of Chilhowee, Mo.; Mrs. Wm. R. (Pearlie A.) Sanders of Joplin, Mo.; Mrs. Hallie Marksberry of Harrisonville, Mo.; Mrs. Robert (Eva) Hunter of Kansas City, Mo.; Mrs. Sterling (Bonnie) Calvert of Nevada, Mo.; Also the following grandchildren: Mrs. Virginia Weess, Blairstown, Mo.; Lucille Hunter, Kansas City, Mo.; Chester Marksberry of Garden City, Mo.; and Fred Marksberry of Clarksville, Ia.; six great grandchildren - Hallie Maxine and Inez Marksberry, Lavon and Anna Louise Waugh, Wanda Marie Weess and Clara Lee Marksberry; also five nephews and seven nieces. She also leaves four sisters - Mrs. Julia Davis and Mrs. Nora L. Hall of Independence, Mo.; Mrs. Nancy Ann DeArmond of Siloam Springs, Ark.; and Mrs. Lottie Shaver of Colorado Springs, Colo. The daughters and two sisters - Mrs. Davis and Mrs. Hall - were present at the funeral. Mrs. Cornett was a member of Hartwell Baptist church and also a member of the Henry County Auxiliary of United Spanish War Veterans. Her life has been spent in the one community, where she was surrounded by neighbors and friends who loved her for her true friendship and kindliness to all about her. She was devoted to her family and home, finding pleasure in doing the many little things her hands found to do that would bring happiness to others. Funeral services were held at the home a 2 o'clock Wednesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. Paul K. Holland, pastor of the Urich Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Norris cemetery. The casket bearers were; Albert Hall, Geo.
