COX OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== COX, Jean Ann GOODMAN n/a - 1996 Jean Ann Cox, 59, Kansas City, died Thursday, May 9, 1996, in Clinton. She is survived by her husband, Jack M. Cox of Kansas City; two sons, Jack E. Cox of Clinton and Randy Cox of the home; two daughters, Tammy Holley of Independence, and Tonya Duke of Warsaw; three brothers, Ralph Goodman of Kansas City, Charles Goodman of Warsaw and Burt Goodman of Georgia; two sisters, Velma Stockton of Orrick and Patty Roberts of Kansas; her stepfather, Leon Wyatt of Warsaw; seven grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at Sickman & Dunning Chapel on Tuesday, May 14, at 11 a.m. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Kansas City following a 1 p.m. service in the Forest Hill Chapel. COX, Jessie Cordelia EMBREE 1885 - 1971 Jessie Cordelia (Embree) Cox, daughter of Jasper Francis and Sarah Catherine (Brown) Embree was born near Fort Smith, AR, November 20, 1885, and passed away at Wetzel's Hospital June 27, 1971 at 7:35 p.m., after a ten weeks illness, of which two weeks was spent at the Golden Valley Nursing Home, the last week at Wetzel's Hospital. She was united in marriage to William Joab Cox on June 1st, 1907, by Judge J. A. Silvers at the Butler, Missouri Court House. Three daughters blessed this home: Mrs. Glenn (Ruby) Lotspeich (deceased); Mrs. Sam (Thelma) McCalmon and Mrs. Monroe (Ruth) Carter, Clinton, MO. Ruby passed away December 19, 1967, and Monroe on February 16, 1967. Her husband, William J. passed away February 5, 1969, after several years of poor health. Her parents, three sisters and two brothers preceded her in death. One sister died in infancy. She is survived by two daughters, four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, her two son-in-laws, Sam McCalmon and Glenn Lotspeich and his wife, Virginia. One great-grandson, Larry Sykes, passed away January 26, 1965. A number of neices and nephews and one sister-in-law, Edna Cox, and her little dog, Tiny, who was her constant companion, also survive. Her mother passed away when she was only two years. She was tenderly cared for by her father who never married again and her older sisters and brothers. She also spent some time with an Aunt Mollie Hemphill, her mother's sister and her mother's brother, Uncle Peter Brown, who with William P. Wright, helped establish the Bethlehem Baptist Church in Bethlehem Township, Henry County, Missouri, on September 6, 1854. They met at the home of Rev James Lee until they built the church two years later and Rev Peter Brown was the first pastor. William P. Wright was Charles Radfords grandfather. She professed her faith in Christ and united with the Christian Church when a young girl, since her father was a pastor of that church for a number of years, but with such a large family, he gave it up and took up farming. She moved her membership to the Methodist Church in Creighton and attended there, while they lived on their farm north of Creighton for several years. In July 1957 they moved to Clinton, MO, when their health failed, buying their home at 405 S. McLane. She and her husband attended Allen Street Baptist Church until his health failed, then when he entered a rest home, she again started to church and was there every Sunday if her health permitted. She was at church the day before she entered the hospital. Her pride and joy were her grandchildren, Mrs. Robert (Janet) Shute; Billy Roy McCalmon; Mrs. Robert (Joyce) Jones; and Mrs. Calvin (Donna) Childers and her great-grandchildren, John Hackworth, Malinda Julia and Kathy Jones, Truitt, Monique, Trent McCalmon and Cassie Childers and the grandchildren spouses that are married. COX, Robert W. n/a - 2000 Kansas City Star, Feb 27 2000 - Robert W. Cox, age 72, of Clinton, MO, passed away Friday, February 25, 2000, at his home. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, February 29, at Vansant-Mills Chapel, Clinton; with burial in Englewood Cemetery, Clinton. Mr. Cox will lie in state from 12 noon-8 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Family suggests contributions to the Twin Lakes Hospice, Clinton or the Clinton Christian Church and may be left at the funeral home. Robert was born in Rich Hill, MO, and moved to Clinton in 1958. He was a plant supervisor for Kansas City Power & Light Montrose Plant, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Clinton Christian Church; Past Master of Clinton Masonic Lodge No. 548; York Rite and Ararat Shrine Temple, Kansas City; Past Scoutmaster Troop 435 and the Clinton Eagles and Galmey VFW. He is survived by his wife, Marjorie M. Cox, of the home; one son, Robert L. Cox and wife, Norie, Clinton, MO; one daughter, Brenda Markham and husband, Ron, Lee's Summit, MO; one sister, Maxine West, Rich Hill, MO; and four grandchildren, Matthew Cox, Jennifer Cox, Steve Markham and Jason Markham. (Arrangements: Vansant-Mills Funeral Home, Clinton, MO) COX, Ruby Jewell HOLLAND 1907 - 1993 Ruby Jewell Cox was born on January 13, 1907, to William Yaney Holland and Ada Pauline (Young) Holland in Finey. She attended Finey School most of the eight years of her education. She and her family lived in Billings, Montana, for a short time, then returned to Finey. She married Samuel Wesley Cox on November 8, 1937, and raised two sons, William Wesley (Bill) and Samuel Dean, while farming their land in the Brownington area. Wes passed away Dec 18, 1981, and Jewell moved to Clinton. She lived at Clinton Manor Apartments where she made many friends and enjoyed social gatherings for seven years before moving to Westwood Nursing Center. She was a member and pianist at Clear Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Lincoln area. She accepted Christ as her savior and was baptized in February of 1956. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Herbert, Hubert, Cecil and Ed. She is survived by one brother, Keith Holland, and wife, Elizabeth. She leaves two sons, Bill, and wife, Peggy, Dean and wife, Cookie; five grandchildren, Marty and wife, Kim, Steve and wife, Susan, Mike, Debbie and Brian; two great-granddaughters, Tiffany and Nichole, daughters of Marty and Kim, along with other relatives and friends. For many years, her pastime was using her hands making things for her family and friends. She enjoyed many outings with her family and was especially happy spending time with her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. She passed away at Golden Valley Hospital at 3:15 a.m. January 13, 1993, on her 86th birthday. Funeral services were 11 a.m. Friday, January 15, 1993, at the Consalus Chapel. Officiating were Rev. Kenneth Nichols and Rev. Wyatt Mellen. Musical selections were How Great Thou Art and We Are Going Down The Valley. Soloist was Craig Stevens and organist, Scott Brooks. Pallbearers were Marty Cox, Mike Cox, Gene Swabby, Steve Cox, Brian Cox and Mike Lesmeister.
