DOWELL OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== DOWELL, Anderson 1840 - 1925 Pioneer Citizen Gone - Anderson Dowell was born in Breckenridge County, Hardensburg, Kentucky, March 2, 1840, and passed away June 19 1925, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Ida Stevenson, in LaDue, Henry County, Mo., and who so willingly, and lovingly, attended her father's every want that loving hands could do, until the messenger came to summon the sufferer to the Heavenly home where there will be no more sorrow. Mr. Dowell was 85 years, 3 months and 17 days of age at his death, having spent the most of his life in Missouri. When a youth of 16 years of age, he moved with his parents from Kentucky, to Mercer County, Illinois, and there he grew to manhood. Here he was united in marriage to Elizabeth Aires Maxie, June 10 1864, and three daughters came to this union. The first one died in 1894, and two survive him: Mrs. Ida Stevenson, of Paola, Kansas, and Mrs. Dora Mills, of Parks, Texas. There were eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. C. T. Lawson, of Pasadena, California, and one brother, Abner Dowell, of Prescott, Washington, besides many nephews, nieces and a large number of friends. He was one of a family of ten children: five brothers, and four sisters, all of whom grew to be strong men and women, except the youngest, who died in infancy. He was a quiet, unassuming man, who was generous to a fault. Was always jolly, and had a kind word for every one he knew. He loved little children very much and he had lived to see little children grow to manhood, womanhood, to be fathers, mothers, grandfathers and grandmothers, having lived in this community since the fall of 1869. He loved to turn old mother earth and plant seeds, then watch them grow with great satisfaction. He enjoyed church services as long as he could hear. He was a charter member of the LaDue Christian Church, and loved to live under her shadow, and always loved her rulings. He, like the sturdy oak, had stood the heat of many summers, and the fury of many winters, but grew tired, and is now resting and we consign all to the Lord who doeth all things well, to be revealed in His own time. His wife preceded him to the better world August 22, 1917, and lived to see many friends pass on. Rev. A. N. Lindsey, of Clinton, Mo., delivered a beautiful sermon at the LaDue Christian Church June 20th, and the remains were tenderly laid to rest by the side of his wife in the LaDue cemetery at the close of the services. Songs that were sung were: "Rock of Ages" and "Lead Kindly Light". The bereaved relatives wish to thank all friends for their kind assistance during Mr. Dowell's illness, all acts of kindness, and sympathy, and for the many beautiful flowers. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
