ECKHARDT OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== ECKHARDT, Louis 1841 - 1923 Louis Eckhardt was born in Entger, Germany March 23 1841; died Aug 1, 1923 at his home near Finey, of the infirmities of old age, being 82 years, 4 months and 8 days. All that medical aid and loving hands of wife, children, kind friends and neighbors could do was done to relieve suffering and make his last days on earth as easy as possible. In 1867, at the age of 26 years he came to America. He landed at New York and came on across the country to St Louis in 1871. He was married to Miss Louise Gousman (Gausmann). To this union six children were born. Two have preceded him to the better world and the living are: Henry Eckhardt, Mrs. J. D. French, William Eckhardt and Theodore Eckhardt. He also leaves to morn his loss a a wife, three grandchildren and a host of friends. In his youth he united with the Lutheran church and after coming to America, he united with the reform church of which he was a member until his death. When he was married he came to Henry County to make his home, living near Quarles and Lewis Station, six or eight years, then he bought and moved to his late home near Finey, having lived there over 40 years. He was a loving companion, a kind father, and a good friend and neighbor. He was a conscientious, honest, industrious man whom to know was to respect. Funeral services were conducted at the Mt. Zion chruch by Rev. Judd. Stonger, after which he was tenderly laid to rest beside his little daugher (Emma) in the Mt. Zion cemetery. ECKHARDT, Louisea GAUSMANN 1849 - 1929 Louisea Gousman (Gausmann) was born in Entger Germany, in 1849; died January 31, 1929. Had she lived until May, she would have been 80 years old. She was converted and became a member of the German Reform Church, of which she remained a member until her death. She came with her parents to America, at the age of 16 coming on an old sailing vessel, being on the way eleven weeks. She came by New Orleans and up the Mississippi river, and made her home in Illinois. She was married to Louis Eckhardt in 1871. To this union were born six children, two of whom died in infancy. The living children are: Henry Eckhardt, Almira French, William Eckhardt and Theodore Eckhardt. Will lived at home with his mother, the rest of the children are living near. She had four grandchildren. When they were married, they came to Henry County MO, to make their home, living four years near Quarles. They then lived on the old Drake place near Drake's Chapel eight years, then moved to the home near Finey where she died, having lived there 46 years. She died suddenly of heart trouble having eaten a hearty supper and gone to bed. About midnight she called Will, saying she was suffering. He at once called the other children, but before any of them could get there mother was gone. Her suffering lasted for only about one-half hour. Her husband preceded her to the better world five years ago. The funeral service was conducted at the Mt. Zion Methodist church, by Rev. J. E. Harryman.
