ELDER OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== ELDER, James Phillip 1841 - 1927 James Phillip Elder was born in Camelstown, Pa., January 15, 1841, and departed from this life at 3 o'clock, January 24th, at the home of George Crooks. Deceased was 86 years and 9 days old. He was a kind and patient sufferer, bearing his pain and suffering so well. He was always pleasant when anyone came to see him. He came to Missouri in 1870, and was married June 11, 1872, to Elizabeth Arnold, of Clinton. They lived in Clinton for awhile, and then went to the farm near Shawnee Mound, where they lived until 1918, when they moved to Leeton, Mo. They made their home there until a few months ago. To this union three children were born: Markie Elder, who died when a baby; Mrs. George Crooks, and Mrs. Frank Gildersleeve, of Leeton, Mo. He served this country during the Civil war and went through the suffering and hardships that other Civil war soldiers went through. He was a friend to all who knew him and was always ready to lend a hand in case of sickness or any trouble his neighbors had. He was always interested in governmental affairs and believed in modern invention and ways. He leaves to mourn his going, his wife, one sister, two daughters and husbands, six grandchildren and a number of other relatives and a host of friends. Funeral service was held Tuesday, January 25th, at 2 o'clock, in the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Shawnee Mound, by Rev. F. C. Hughes, of Warrensburg.
