FARRIS OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== FARRIS, Leta May HEARE GROFF 1903 - 1995 Leta May Farris, 91, daughter of Luther Jackson Heare and Myrtle (Farr) Heare, died September 12, 1995, at Fern's Health Care Center in Windsor. Leta was born in St. Clair County on October 3, 1903. She graduated from the Osceola High School, receiving a teacher's certificate. She accepted a teaching position in Henry County at the Bethlehem Elementary School where she met her husband-to- be Jack Groff. They were married April 19, 1924, and to this union six children were born, one dying in infancy in 1938. In 1949, Leta married Thomas Rolland Farris of Clinton. In 1950, they opened Clinton's first Dairy Queen on South Second Street. They resided in Clinton until Mr. Farris' death in 1968, at which time they owned and operated the Plaza Trailer Court. Leta was a devoted member of the Clinton Christian Church, where she enjoyed the many activities of the church and its fellowship. She was a member of C.W.F. and Merriades. She was also a member of the v.F.W. Auxiliary, where she was a "Gold Star Mother". She is survived by two daughters, Joy Crawford and Betty Brazeale, both of Clinton; one son, Glenn Groff of Blue Springs; seven grandchildren, eldest grandsons, Mitchell L. Crawford, Overland Park, Kansas, and Michael Crawford, Blue Springs, eldest granddaughter, Melinda Crawford Gillenwater, Wichita, Kansas, also William Reed Groff and Robert Mathew Groff, both of Blue Springs, Nona Rae Belknap of Bonner Springs, Kansas; four great-grandchildren, Lindsay Belknap, Stacey Belknap and Devin Belknap, all of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Jarod Gillenwater, Wichita, Kansas; one step-son, Carl Farris and two step- granddaughters, all of Sedalia. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a sister, Minta Brown, and her two eldest sons, Billy Jack and Kenneth Lynn. Funeral services were 3 p.m. Thursday, September 14, at the Christian Church in Clinton. Rev. Howard Cupp officiated. Don Eaton sang "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art", accompanied by organist Peggy Arthur. Pallbearers were Darold Eberting, Don Sherman, Don Goslin and David Lindell.
