FORD OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== FORD, Claude Everett 1909 - 1981 Claude Everett Ford, eldest of three children of Charley and Grace M. Ford, died February 24, 1981 at his home in Sacramento, CA, after a long illness. He was born March 8, 1909, near Clinton, MO, and lived most of his life in Henry County. He farmed with his father until the family moved to Clinton in 1928. He was then employed at the Lindstrom and Booth Hatcheries until they closed, and at that time he became hatchery operator at the Allen Hatchery, Windsor. Mr. Ford retired in 1977 and moved to Sacramento to be near his children. He married Neva Tilton January 5, 1931, in Clinton. He is survived by his children, also a sister, Mrs. Owen Wade of Clinton. Services were at the Andrews and Greilich Funeral Home in Sacrament with burial in Sacramento, CA. FORD, Doreen RHOADS 1927 - 1994 Doreen Rhoads was born September 1, 1927 in Columbus, Kansas, the daughter of Holland and Inez (Kauble) Rhoads. She passed away Sunday, March 6, 1994 at her home in Clinton, at the age of sixty-six. Doreen was a graduate of the Clinton High School. She lived in Clinton most of her life. Doreen was a telephone operator for many years, working for the United Telephone Company. Doreen liked to do embroidery and latch hook and also enjoyed fishing. She especially liked being with family and friends. Doreen was a member of the Northeast Baptist church in Clinton. She was also a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the Eagles Lodge. She is survived by one son, Robert "Bobby" L. McCartney, IL, and wife, Paulette, of New London, Mo.; three brothers, Russell Rhoads, Decatur, Georgia, Marvin Rhoads, Clinton, and Jim Rhoads of Oklahoma; one sister, Shirley Doss, Marietta, Georgia; three grandsons, David McCartney, Mableton, Georgia, Robert "Rob" L. McCartney III, New London, Christopher McCartney, New London. Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 9, 1994 at Consalus Chapel, with Brother Jim Hammock officiating. Music was You Are The Wind Beneath My Wings and How Great Thou Art, with Don Eaton, soloist, and Scott Brooks, organist. Pallbearers were Rob McCartney, Rob Rhoads, Jerry Powers, David McCartney, Jim Doss and Bobby McCartney. Burial was in Clinton Memory Gardens. FORD, Virginia C. "Kate" SLACK 1858 - 1936 Clinton MO, March 1936 - Mrs. Kate Ford Dead - Virginia C. Slack, youngest of the nine children of James C. and Caroline Humphries Slack, was born June 22, 1858, in Chariton county, near Laclede, Mo. She died in her home in Windsor Saturday evening, March 21, after a week's illness of "flu" and pneumonia. She was married to William Bennett Ford December 2, 1874. To this union were born six children, three sons and three daughters. The oldest son, Loyd, died in Lexington, Kentucky, at the age of twenty-four. He would soon have been graduated from Kentucky University and the College of the Bible to enter the Christian ministry. Mr. Ford died in 1897, so Mrs. Ford was a widow for almost forty years. She reared, trained and educated the children, who were the pride and joy of her life. The surviving children, all of whom were here for the funeral, are Mrs. Margaret Sossamon, of Ada Oklahoma; Mrs. Willie Chipman of Calhoun; Thos. W. Ford of Baltimore, Md., James R. Ford, of Los Angeles, California; and Mrs. Caroline Howes of Dunkirk, Maryland. She is also survived by eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. She is survived by two brothers, Judge Henry Slack, of Calhoun and Tom Slack, northeast of Clinton. Mrs. Ford was a woman of indomitable will power, unusual physical strength, high courage and dauntless faith. She became a member of the Christian church early in life and was always devoted to the church and loyal to the ministers. For many years she has been one of the most valued members of Windsor Christian church and one of the most highly revered women in Windsor. Funeral services at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon were conducted by Rev. M. L. Riley, assisted by Rev. G. S. Birkhead, of Jefferson City. Music was under the direction of Mrs. Roy Milam. Pallbearers were John Roberts, E. C. Pigg, Thomas Mayfield, Geo. Gray, Herman Porter, Walton Elbert. Interment in Calhoun cemetery. FORD, William Bennett 1846 - 1897 Clinton MO, Feb 20 1897 - Wm. B. Ford, superintendent of the Tebo Coal Mines, was killed Wednesday, Feb. 17, in the afternoon. He got on the cage at the top landing to go down to the prop landing to put on some props and, just as he was nearing the landing, he tried to get off the cage and caught his head between a 2 x 4 cross bar of the shaft and a cross bar on the cage, crushing his head and causing instant death. His body was conveyed to the residence of G. W. Powels, where an inquest was held by G. A. Shepherd, a justice of the peace, on the same evening. Leaves a wife and six children to mourn his loss. His wife, who lives on a farm near Windsor, arrived at Lewis on the south bound evening passenger train. His remains were carried to Calhoun Thursday and taken to the home of his brother-in-law, Henry Slack, and was interred at that place Friday morning. - Clinton MO, Feb 27 1897 - William B. Ford, who was killed in the mine accident at Tebo Coal and Mining Company on Feb. 17, was born in West Virginia December 23, 1846. He married Miss Mollie Hazelwood August 13, 1865. They had three children, Henry, Walter and Josiah, Walter surviving him. Mr. Ford enlisted in the 7th Mo. Militia and served during the war. He was married again to Miss Virginia C. Slack, Dec. 3, 1874 and they had six children - Loyd M., Maggie M., Willie B., Thomas W., Rolla and Caroline. He joined the Baptist church under the preaching of Uncle Wm. Lawler in 1884. He was a brother of Mrs. J. W. Morgan and Mrs. Mary Edmondson of Calhoun and a brother-in-law of Alf, Henry, Thomas and John Slack.
