FORSYTHE OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== FORSYTHE, Edward Kapels 1923 - 1943 Clinton Eye, Thursday, Apr 8 1943 - Edward Forsythe Dies In Airplane Crash, Young Flier, Alone In Ship, Is Killed Monday Night About Two Miles North of Hamilton Field, California - Clinton boy Lieut. Edward Forsythe, son of Kapels Forsythe of Clinton and who was taking last six weeks of tactical training in aviation at Hamilton Field, Calif., crashed in his pursuit plane two miles north of Hamilton Field at 10:45 p. m. Monday, April 5, 1943, bringing death immediately to the fine young soldier. A telegram to his sister, Miss Lucille Forsythe, later that day made no further statements, so details of the accident are not yet known. His plane was a one mane pursuit ship, so it is presumed he alone was in the accident. Edward Kapels Forsythe was born August 25, 1923 at Garland, the only son of his parents, Kapels Forsythe and his late wife, Elsie Parks Forsythe, to whom death came in 1928. Edward, a splendid chap, attended the Second Street Methodist Church after the family moved to Clinton in 1926 and was in the Clinton High School class of 1941, where he was a creditable and popular student and an outstanding track man. After graduation he served as the assistant manager at the Mattingly Bros. Store until January 5, 1942; when he enlisted in the Army Air Corps. He began his training at Sheppard Field, Texas and Ft. Wayne, Ind., then after several months in California was sent to Yuma, Ariz., where he was graduated with the rank of Second Lieutenant. He had expected a furlough before being sent for the last of his training at Hamilton Field and was enjoying thoroughly his flying. He was happily planning a visit home, when his present six weeks work was completed. He was an excellent aviator, quick, fearless and dependable and his life, snuffed so untimely in the adverse wind, was given as the true soldier would have wished it, doing his job, and with no regrets. He is survived by his father and sister, Miss Lucille Forsythe, and his grandmother, Mrs. W. B. Parks, with whom he made his home most of the tie since the death of his mother; also his aunt and uncle, Mr. and Mrs. George Calvin, with whom they made their home the first winter after Mrs. Forsythe's passing. The body will be brought to Clinton for burial, arrangements for which have not yet been made. Friends may call the Consalus & Peck Funeral Home for further details. FORSYTHE, Elsie Jewel PARKS 1905 - 1928 Elsie Jewel Parks was born September 19, 1905, in Clinton, Mo. She grew to womanhood here and on June 11, 1921, she was united in marriage to Kaples Forsythe. She had been a patient in the Stebbins hospital since May 29, being operated on May 31, and there she passed away on the 13th of June, being 22 years, 8 months and 24 days old. She had always been a home loving girl, ready to help all, striving to please, never considering her own health. She was a faithful wife and mother and although in ill health for a number of years she bore her sufferings without complaint. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. She leaves to mourn, her husband and two children - Lucile, 6 and Edward 4; her father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Parks; two brothers - Glenn and Robert, at home, and two married sisters - Mrs. Charles Calvin and Mrs. George Calvin, both of Clinton; two grandmothers - Mrs. H. Hamilton and Mrs. Emily C. Parks, of Baird, Wash. Also a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and loving friends. The funeral services were held at the home of her sister, Mrs. George Calvin, Friday morning, the services conducted by the Reverend Wolfe of the first M. E. church, after which she was laid to rest in Englewood cemetery. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
