GAINES OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== GAINES, Charles S. 1868 - 1925 Charles S. Gaines died at his home on South Carter street, about 5 p.m. Tuesday. He had gone out to split some wood and in about half an hour he fell on his knees. He managed to get to the house by himself and sat down on the bed, complaining of his heart hurting him. A physician was called but he only drew a few breaths after the doctor arrived. Deceased was born Feb. 4th, 1868, near Marshall, Mo. He was twice married. The first marriage was to Miss Cora Hibler, on March 7, 1894, she dying Dec. 24, 1898. To this union two children were born; one, a son died at the age of two years. The daughter survives - Mrs. Elsie Barth, of Urich. His second marriage was to Mrs. Bessie Ooley, on Aug. 7, 1921, she surviving. He also leaves one brother, Harrison D. Gaines, of Entiat, Wash.; three sisters - Mrs. R. B. Stewart, west of Clinton; Mrs. W. R. Thompson, of Urich; Mrs. J. M. McMillian, of Denver, Colo., and an adopted sister, Mrs. Homer Dunnigan, Auburn, Nebr. Mr. Gaines was converted at the age of 16 years, uniting with the Cumberland Presbyterian church at Hopewell, in the west part of the county. He was held in high esteem by a wide circle of acquaintances, who deeply sympathize with the bereaved ones in this time of sorrow. He had been employed at Armour's. Funeral services were conducted at Hopewell church at 11 a.m. Thursday, by Rev. falls, pastor of the Clinton Presbyterian church, and burial was in Hopewell cemetery. GAINES, Nancy Josephine HANNAH 1899 - 1928 Mrs. Charles W. Gaines Died - At her home on South Second street (Clinton, MO), at 1:30 p.m. Monday, with heart trouble and complications. She had been in failing health for some time and ill for about two weeks, but took suddenly worse Sunday and went into eternity the next day. Nancy Josephine Hannah was born near Salisbury, N.C. On July 19, 1899, she was united in marriage to Charles W. Gaines, coming to Clinton, immediately thereafter as a bride. This had been her home since. She was a beautiful southern woman, letting her home life dominate her. She made many warm friends, but went out seldom. Those who knew and loved her were those who went into her home, where they enjoyed her gracious hospitality of the old South. She was educated in the Seminary at Winston Salem, N.C. She was a great reader, informed on every subject of the day, as well as being a student of the world's classics and present day writers. Naturally literary in taste, this was her greatest recreation. She was reticent, but always remembered a kindness and was quick to show her appreciation, ready, always, to help in the good works of the community. Her husband departed this life, May, 1918. Two sons were given to this marriage - Charles W. Gaines, Jr., who manages the large farm, west of Clinton; and Richard P., who is at home. She also leaves four brothers and two sisters. Deceased was a member of the Episcopal church, The Daughters of the American Revolution and The Daughters of the Confederacy. Rev. C. G. Fox, the Episcopal minister from Springfield, conducted the funeral from the family home Wednesday afternoon. Burial in Englewood beside her husband.
