GEORGE, Ellen Lucina SAXTON 1854 - 1918 Clinton Eye, Jan 1919 - With sad hearts and tearful eyes we are called to record another visit by the angel of death in our midst. On last Saturday morning just before 6 o'clock, as the bright dawn of day was approaching the eastern sky and promising a day of beauty and sunshine, the cold hand of death reached into the home of Mrs. Ellen George and family and claimed for its victim this dearly beloved mother and friend. It was then that this dear one closed her eyes on earthly scenes, only to open them to brighter scenes than ever before. It was then that the saddest hour and hardest trial of life was inflicted upon the hearts of her children, who loved and cared for her so tenderly, throwing every comfort around her, both in sickness and health. Mrs. Ellen Lucina George, nee Saxton was born in Allen county, Ohio, Oct. 26, 1854; died Dec. 28, 1918; being 64 years, 2 months and 2 days of age. She was married to Joseph George Oct. 9, 1874; coming to this home a bride 45 years ago and lived her entire married life on the old home place. She has raised a family of 8 children - 5 boys and 3 girls, all of whom survive her and had been at her bedside, except her youngest son Frank, who is in military service in France. Her husband preceded her to the better world some 25 years ago, leaving the responsibilities of the family all to her, besides the care of the aged grandfather and grandmother, who were in feeble health, and a great burden to her, yet she bore it all so uncomplainingly. She was a dear, good woman, loved and respected by all who knew her. It is so sad to know the home is broken, but we must submit to God's will. "The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the name of the Lord." May the family feel and know, even though their home is broken that 64 years of useful life has been spent on this earth in making other lives sweeter and happy and may each of them live that they may see the reflection in their own lives; that while she cannot meet them at the door to welcome their home coming or greet them with a cheery smile, only think their lives have given her no sorrow or heartaches, should be a comfort to them, and on that beautiful shore, where no parting words are spoken, no pain or sorrow is known, she is awaiting them over there. She was converted in early womanhood, joined Mt. Olivet Baptist church. Her Christian faith was strong and the life she lived was without spot or blemish, as she did not hold malice against any one. She truly was a noble woman, loyal to her family and friends. She did not fear death, but made the remark, "I did want to live to see Frank. It will be awful for him to come home and not see his mother." Yet she trusted it all to the Lord. She was afflicted by a dreaded cancer with sapper her pure life away by degrees, until death came to relieve her and she fell asleep in Jesus. Her funeral services were conduced by Rev. Wm. Briggs at Mt. Olivet church, Sunday afternoon, in the presence of a large concourse of sorrowing relatives and friends, after which the remains were laid by the side of her husband to await the resurrection morn.
