GROUND OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== GROUND, Florence Lucinda BALCH 1861 - 1938 Mrs. E. M. Ground Died - About 4:25 p. m. January 7, 1938, at the Ground home, seven miles east of Clinton. In ill health several years, she had been bedfast since a stroke last March, growing worse the last week. Her son, Henry, and wife of the home, cared for her, and last Thursday other children came to administer and comfort their mother, whose home the past 20 years or more had been in and near Clinton. Florence Lucinda Balch was born January 22, 1861, in Pike County, Ill. To her and her husband, Emanuel Monroe Ground, whom she married August 17, 1882, were born nine children, six of whom survive; Henry, of the home; Freeman, near Urich; Mrs. Rose Garrett of Adrian: Mrs. Harvey Hatch, Oberlin, Kans.; Mrs. Charles White, near the home; Mrs. Jess Thompson, Coal. There are eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, Shirley and Jessaline Shumaker, daughters of Mr. and Mrs. Oda Shumaker. near Ohio Post Office, and granddaughters of Mr. and Mrs. Freeman Ground. Deceased had been a member of the Christian church since youth. She was a good wife, mother and daughter, ever thoughtful of others, bearing her affliction in silence. Funeral services were conducted at the home at 2:30 p. m. Sunday by Rev A. S. Olsen. Burial at Englewood under direction of Consalus & Peck. Mesdames Ben Cheatham and Miss Hazel, Howard Jones, Gene Henry and Frank Sargert sang In the Sweet By and By and In the Garden. Pallbearers were Otto Knoles, Claude Foster, John Lovell, Ellery Walker, Robert Warner and Ben Cheatham.
