HAYES, Elizabeth 1815 - 1887

Clinton MO, Jul 30 1887 - Death has claimed one of Lewis' oldest residents, Mrs. 
Elizabeth Hayes, at the residence of her son, Ira B. Hayes, early last Tuesday 
morning of chronic affliction of the stomach. Mrs. Hayes was born in Virginia in 
1815 and came to Missouri with her husband in 1853 and settled near Lewis. A 
Methodist since quite young, in the last two months of her illness, she often 
spoke of dying and wished the Lord would send the angels and relieve her 
suffering. Last January, her husband, Uncle Harvey Hayes, died at the ripe old age 
of 73. She leaves one child to mourn her loss. Burial in Lewis cemetery.


HAYES, Harvey 1811 - 1887

Harvey Hayes died at his home at Lewis Station Thursday morning, January 20. 
Born in Carenogg, Shetaway county, New York, in the year 1811. Emigrated to 
Missouri in 1854 and settled near Lewis Station. A good and faithful friend, a 
good Christian man and a member of the M. E. Church of many years. He has been 
afflicted with a disease preying on his vital parts but bedfast only two weeks. 
Leaves an aged widow and a son to mourn his loss. Laid to rest by his daughter, 
Mrs. Helvey, who had gone before.
