HOEFER OBITUARIES, Henry County, Missouri ==================================================================== HOEFER, Peter C. 1934 - 1999 Clinton Daily Democrat Sep 24 1999 - Peter C. Hoefer was born March 2, 1934, in Cold Spring, Minnesota. He grew up in Seattle, Washington, graduating from Highline High School there. After his graduation, he served two years in the Untied States Army, then returned to Seattle, where he served an apprenticeship with a yacht builder. Pete's principle vocation was as a pattern or model maker with the Tompkins Tooling Company of Norwalk, California. When he retired from Tompkins in 1984, after 20 years of service with them, he was their shop superintendent, bidding and overseeing many major projects. Our lives have been influenced by Pete's work more than we might know. If, for example, you have seen a Mattel Hot Wheels or Barbie Doll, you have seen examples of Pete's work, as Mattel was one of their major clients. Pete also was instrumental in creating several large sculptures from ideas that artists or other clients brought to the company. One of those projects resulted in a long friendship with well-known author Michael Creighton. Pete was a lover of wood, the feel and smell of it, and he found great satisfaction in carving and other woodworking. He also enjoyed exhibiting his creativity in stained glass and in cooking. He was an artist and a craftsman - and a perfectionist. Couple that with a strong will, and you had a person who would not give up on a project until he had it right, who would stand firm for what he believed, who would not give in if he was convinced he was right, and who could give up smoking and sugar, almost overnight, when he saw that health required those changes. Pete loved travel (including Sunday drives), classical music, old movies, good books and watching sports (especially baseball). His children have fond memories of watching the L. A. Dodgers from box seats just behind third base, and their dad's firm rules about behavior at a baseball game. But clearly the real love of his life was his family. In many ways, his life revolved around his wife, Carole, with whom he shared 38 years of marriage. The mutual trust and confidence that characterized their relationship set a high standard for their children's expectations of marriage. The love that Pete and Carole shared quite naturally flowed out to their children and their grandchildren. Their memories are of a man who was not only strong-willed, but also deeply sensitive - not afraid to cry and loving to hug. Pete was a member of the Deepwater Christian Church and the Disabled American Veterans. He also was a member of the golden Trowel Masonic Lodge in Norwalk, California, where he was a Past Master, the White Shrine of Long Beach, California, where he was a Past Watchman of Shepherds, and the Order of Eastern Star in Clinton, where he was a Past Worthy Patron. Pete is survived by his wife, Carole, of the home; one son, Bradley Hoefer of La Mirada, California; three daughters, Krisma Juarez of La Mirada, California, Heidi Smith of Deepwater and Amie Tavares of Hayward, California; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Favorite Scripture passage: "This is the day which the Lord has made; we will rejoice and be glad in it." Appropriate for every day - even the day of death and the day of grief. Funeral services were held at the First Christian Church in Deepwater on Wednesday, September 15, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Howard Cupp, Jr. officiating. The musical selections were "Nearer My God To Thee" and "Amazing Grace". The pianist was Mildred Dahms. Pallbearers were Jeremy Denton, Adam Jackson, Curtis Smith, Tim Smith, Marty Jackson and Gary Bents. Honorary pallbearers were Darrell Leonard and Daniel Smith. Burial was in the Deepwater Cemetery under the direction of Vansant-Mills Funeral Home of Clinton. ==================================================================== USGENWEB NOTICE: In keeping with our policy of providing free information on the Internet, data may be used by non-commercial entities, as long as this message remains on all copied material.
